The Sea Dragon was a mythological creature of ancient Greece. Huge and reptilian-like, Sea Dragons had razor-sharp teeth and claws. Their ability to control wind and water made them dangerous to shipping. Lost cargos became their treasure.

This Sea Dragon sculpture was introduced in 2008 by Safari Ltd. and has become hugely popular as a collector’s item. It is 7 inches long and 4 3/4 inches tall. It is hand painted and phthalate free plastic. It’s a great item for gamers and collectors of mythological and fantasy creatures as well as a great toy for children aged 3 and up.

I did an article about found poetry for HubPages  I included a lot of information about found poetry and wrote about my own News Print Poetry 2012 project. Please take a look and help me be successful on HubPages.  The article is Found Poetry: The News Print Poetry Project.

I used a picture of this dragon to illustrate my poem about Chinese New Year that was included in the article as an example of found poetry.

Here's the poem.

The Year of the Dragon

Chinese New Year.
The Year of the Dragon

The mythical creature
brings optimism, and
hope for better times.

The dragon—
the most powerful sign
delivers energy and prosperity.

You can see more of the poems at News Print Poetry 2012.

The Dragons of Game of Thrones

by Catherine Giordano

Daenerys with one of her baby dragons
Isn't it cool that Daenerys on HBO's The Game of Thrones is the Mother of Dragons.  The dragonlets were so cute as little hatchlings.

Daenerys with her young dragon

As they grew older, the dragons were loving and mostly obedient. They protected Daenerys and helped her win battles. They were quite useful.

But the dragons appear to be rambunctious teenagers now, and they are running wild. They are magnificent, but they are heedless wild animals who are wreaking death and destruction across the countryside. They are out of control.

Dragon Gone Wild

In The Game of Thrones season four finale, Daenerys had to chain two of the dragons up in a cave. They do not appear to be happy about that.

The third dragon  is still on the loose.  I expect he will reappear in a subsequent episode. I expect it will not bode well for Daenerys, her armies, her subjects, or indeed, for any one on this world.

It was so sexy and exciting to be The Mother of Dragons. But they grow up so fast.

If you can't wait to find out what happens, you can always read the books.  (Note: The TV show does not always follow the books.)

The Dragonriders of Pern

by Catherine Giordano

I think my interest in dragons began many years ago when I read The Dragonriders of Pern, by Anne McCaffrey. There are several titles in this collection

Pern is a planet where dragons and humanoids (or perhaps humans) live in close cooperation with each other.

McCaffrey takes us into this strange world she has so lovingly created, and we fall under her spell.

The main character is Lessa, and she together with her compatriots and her dragons must save the planet from an other worldly threat.

If you haven't read these novels yet, I recommend them to you.
